Recently, the New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust facilitated a two-day business attachment between Fonterra and NZ First MP Andy Foster, Chair of the Transport and Infrastructure Committee.

On day one, Andy visited Fonterra farms to observe milk collection and testing, followed by the Crawford Street Distribution Centre. Discussions covered rail use, automation, and supply chain efficiencies. On day two, Andy visited the NZ Transport Team headquarters to discuss Fonterra’s tanker fleet with a focus on safety, decarbonisation, maintenance, and route planning. This was followed by a visit to the Morrinsville service centre to see tanker construction and maintenance before concluding with a tour at Milk Test New Zealand and Te Rapa’s powder and cream plants.

Andy thanked Fonterra and its teams, “who made my two days both enormously enjoyable and hugely informative”. He went on to say: “I really did feel that I got a very good picture of the business around the country, the competitive environment, the journey from grass to glass, the criticality of maintaining the highest quality of product and food safety, and also some very useful insights into the relationship of Fonterra to key partners, particularly in the transport area.”
