The New Zealand Business and Parliament Trust hosted its third seminar of 2025 on Wednesday the 10th of September, titled “Exercising Government Through Parliament”. Held in Parliament’s Grand Hall and Legislative Council Chamber, the seminar provided corporate attendees the opportunity to hear from guest speakers, including many MPs, and observe a debate in the House of Representatives. NZBPT Board Chair Brent McAnulty and Trustee Council Member Jessica Mutch McKay presided.
Key speakers at the seminar were: Barbara Kuriger MP (Deputy Speaker), Dr David Wilson (Clerk of the House), Stuart Smith MP (Chief Government Whip), Glen Bennett MP (Senior Labour Party Whip), Rebecca Kitteridge CVO (Deputy Public Service Commissioner), Hon Carmel Sepuloni MP (Deputy Leader of the Opposition), Anna Whyte (Parliamentary Press Gallery Chair), and Jamie Arbuckle (NZ First Party Whip).
The seminar concluded with Reuben Davidson MP (Christchurch East) and Catherine Wedd MP (Tukituki) speaking about their experience as first-term MPs and the transition from private to public life.
Also in attendance was Templeton Scholar Davina Zimmer, who has been working on The Detail (RNZ-Newsroom) since the start of last year. The Templeton Scholar is a position that provides young politics journalists with a week at Parliament to shadow the Press Gallery and get a feel for Parliamentary reporting.
