The Rt Hon Chris Hipkins MP was first elected to Parliament in 2008 as the member for Remutaka and has served in six Parliaments to date.

In the Ardern Government, he held the critical portfolio of COVID-19 Response in addition to a range of other senior roles: Education, Health, and Police. In January 2023, he became Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party. 

Following the 2023 General Election and with Labour not returned to the Treasury benches, he became Leader of the Opposition and is currently Spokesperson for Ministerial Services and National Security and Intelligence and a member of the Intelligence and Security Select Committee. Before becoming a Member of Parliament, Chris worked in both the private sector and as a senior advisor in Parliament.
