Dr Paramjeet Parmar MP grew up in India and emigrated to New Zealand where she completed her PhD in neuroscience at the University of Auckland before becoming a scientist. She serves as the Chairperson for the Economic Development, Science and Innovation Select Committee and a member of the Education and Workforce Select Committee as well as the ACT Party Spokesperson for Commerce and Consumer Affairs and a variety of other portfolios.

Paramjeet and her husband became the directors of confectionary company, Kiwi Empire Confectionery Limited. She has also been a talkback host and has previously held two government appointments as a community representative on the Film and Labelling Body and on the board of the Families Commission. Paramjeet was a National List MP from 2014 to 2020 and re-entered Parliament at the 2023 General Election as a member of the ACT Party.
